Modding an arcade machine

Modding an arcade machine

I’ve been a little quiet lately as I’ve given myself a little time off game dev. I recent picked up an Arcade1up Midway legacy Mortal Kombat II cabinet with the intention of modding it with the parts from my full size arcade machine in the dining room. The plan being to sell the full size cabinet and keep the smaller Arcade1up machine in the office.

So I’ve removed the existing monitor and added a Dell 2007fpb 4×3 LCD monitor, a bezel had to be made and I had some Plexiglass cut to size.

Next step was to design a new control panel as I prefer the Street Fighter 6 button layout. I cut the panel from 18mm plywood and used fortner bits to cut the holes for the buttons. I had the artwork printed by rockstarprint.co.uk which turned out great.

For the front end I’m using a HP elitedesk mini PC with a Batocera installation. Buttons are connected to a Ultimarc Ultimate I/O which is USB.

Next I have to add the monitor for the dynamic marquee and apply the graphics to the control panel.

To be continued…
